Publicação do dossiê “Towards an Art History of precontemporary Africa: Methodology, Historiography, Epistemology”, organizado por Claire Bosc-Tiessé (pesquisadora do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa Científica, França) e Peter Mark (professor emérito da Wesleyan University, Estados Unidos).

O dossiê é formado por cinco artigos, dedicados à história da arte na África antes do colonialismo europeu. Neste número, pude contribuir com um texto, no qual exploro representações da cultura escrita islâmica esculpidas em peças de marfim, na Grande Senegâmbia, entre os séculos XVI e XVII.

Publication of the dossier “Towards an Art History of precontemporary Africa: Methodology, Historiography, Epistemology”, organized by Claire Bosc-Tiessé (reseacher from CNRS, France) and Peter Mark (emeritus professor from Wesleyan University, USA).

The dossier is formed by 05 articles, dedicated to African art history before European colonialism. There, I have made a contribution with a paper, in which Islamic written culture depicted in pieces of carved ivory is explored. Those pieces came from 16th and 17th centuries Senegambia.
